MSA British Kart Championship transferred to KZ1

S1Logo_smallThe Motor Sports Association (MSA) and Super One Series have confirmed that the 2013 MSA British Short Circuit Kart Championship title has been transferred from KF2 to the KZ1 125cc gearbox class.

The championship was originally awarded to KF2 (KF Senior) but insufficient entries were received.

The 2013 championship for KZ1 will now comprise three rounds:

· May 18-19: Rowrah (Cumbria Kart Club)

· June 22-23: Glan Y Gors (Dragon Kart Club)

· October 12-13: Shenington (Shenington Kart Racing Club).

John Hoyle, Super One Series promoter, said: “After we discovered there were insufficient entries in the KF2 class we were forced to consider alternatives and I am delighted to say that the MSA has agreed to it being the KZ1 class. This should be a huge boost for gearbox karting in the UK following the great popularity this purist class has had on the continent, and we invite anyone interested to register without delay.”

Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive and Kart Committee Chairman, added: “The MSA is delighted that the British Short Circuit Kart Championship title will now be awarded to the KZ1 class this year. These are difficult times for KF2 but in KZ1 we have a competitive and well-supported category that is worthy of the UK’s premier karting title.”

It should be noted that the ABkC O Plate for KZ2 has been moved to 15/16 June at Shenington instead of the last round of the Super One.

Entrants to the KF series will have the choice of a transfer to the KZ1 class, or all their fees returned and should inform Series Co-ordinator Sonja Game accordingly. The KZ1 class will be amended to run at a class weight of 180kg, and use the Dunlop DEH slick and KT13 wets to have the minimum of differences to the KZ2 class that was to have been the support races. It will be differentiated from KZ2 by having yellow number plates with black numbers, and CIK homologated chassis will be required. With all rounds counting towards the British title, everything will remain as already advised to the gearbox drivers. The Super One Series looks forward to an exciting battle for the British title, and all details and registration is available on http://superoneseries.com/
